Psalm Reflection: Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle B)

“You are my inheritance, O Lord!” - Psalm 16

Are you serving God more than you serve your possessions? If your phone or computer was destroyed would you be more affected than if your relationship with God was in shambles? Which occupies more of your time, effort and dedication: your phone, social media, Netflix, a relationship, a worry, a goal, a career, or God? Since we don’t experience our relationship with God as a physical tangible one, like the way we do with other friendships, it can be easy to become complacent when things are not going well, or when we are not putting God first. We might simply think to ourselves, “I need to work on that,” or, “I’ll do better tomorrow,” or “I need to change something up, but I’m not sure what,” or we may not even notice. But if our phone or internet access were gone, we would be extremely quick to fix it. We are attached to this world more than we know and we are far too comfortable in moments of detachment from God, if we are even aware of them at all. This week, fast from all technology and media for a pre-planned amount of time each day, try somewhere between 15-60 minutes, and use that time to be more attentive to your prayer life and your relationship with God. We are praying for you this week!

See you in the Eucharist
