Psalm Reflection: The Epiphany of the Lord - Cycle A

Psalm Reflection: The Epiphany of the Lord - Cycle A

“Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.” - Psalm 67

There are two ways to go through life: on the bench or in the trench.

The bench is for those who are watching life pass them by, unwilling to put themself in the game out of fear, worry, stress or anxiety.

Life is lived in the trenches where it is meaningful and messy. Everything you do matters because there is a battle being fought and every person has a part to play in order for that battle to be won. The battle is against sin, evil and death. The goal is eternal life, not only for us, but for every nation on earth.

This Sunday’s Psalm can be a statement of passive hope or a mission statement. Which will it be for you?:

Lord, one day you will do everything you need to do so that everyone will hopefully know you.

or

Lord, let’s get out there and make sure every single person on this earth knows and adores you.

Both are true, but only one honors the role you have been cast to play in the great plan of salvation history.

You and I have a divinely ordained calling to proclaim the Good News to everyone we encounter. We will not be able to stand before Jesus for judgment and give the excuse: “I never had a chance to share you with anyone!” Every day is an opportunity to share the love of God, we need to get up off the bench and dive into the trenches of the battle for our souls and the souls of our brothers and sisters around the world.

They need you.

They need your voice.

They need your gifts.

They need your money.

They need your time and attention.

They need Jesus, and you may be the only person who can give Him to them.

Do not let 2023 be a year where you sit idly and watch it pass by. Get in the game and love people in the ways that only you can.

I am praying for you, please pray for me, and I will see you in the Eucharist.

Matt.
