Psalm Reflection: The Second Sunday of Lent (Cycle A)

Psalm Reflection: The Second Sunday of Lent (Cycle A)

“Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.” - Psalm 33

Do you trust God? Like REALLY trust Him?

Trust is a funny thing. I trust that the garbage man is going to come. It really doesn’t affect my life or cause me to obsess about the trash, I just trust that is what is supposed to happen and how the world works. But, when it doesn’t happen and things start to pile up, it can cause problems. Suddenly I start to take notice, to complain, and to take action.

If we trust God this way, that is a problem.

Our trust in God cannot be passive. We cannot simply “trust” in God that everything will be perfect and comfortable, and suddenly if things don’t go the way we want, we abandon hope, belief, or trust.

We are called to EN-trust our lives, hearts, worries, hopes and desires to God and to recognize that He has already given us SO much in His mercy; He is always faithful.

You would probably not entrust your children, your car, your home or your bank account to the garbage man or to some other stranger. But, that radical trust is how we are mean to trust in God because only He can truly satisfy every desire of our hearts. We have NO reason not to trust Him, because He has already given us EVERYTHING.

Is there something you are holding onto? Your plans for the future? An addiction? An area of your life or your past that you have buried because of the pain, trauma, or hurt it caused you? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by placing those things in God’s hands so He can finally bring healing, clarity and direction. Let this Lent be an opportunity for you to be invited into deeper trust in God.

We are praying for you this week.

See you in the Eucharist.
